A massage is one of the kindest things you can do for your body.

A massage is one of the kindest things you can do for your body. As life pummels us with stresses, both real and imagined, our bodies let us know when we need the healing touch of a massage. It can relieve discomfort caused by injuries, muscle pain, poor circulation and even, insomnia.
According to the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), between July 2016 and July 2017, surveys revealed that 47-59 million Americans experienced at least one massage. For baby boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) massage has become the go-to therapy for relief from aching muscles and joints due to arthritis and other age-related conditions.
Ancient to the Future
Massage has a long history as a holistic, alternative medical practice recognized in cultures world-wide. Physical therapy and chiropractic manipulation are its direct descendants. If you’re trying massage for the first time, feel confident that this ancient practice is beautifully adapted to the stresses of the 21st century and beyond.
Dating back to ancient Egypt, the Egyptians were renowned for their masterful use of massage with special oils as depicted on the walls of different pharaohs’ tombs. Since 2700 B.C.E., Chinese traditional medicine has taught and practiced massage. Its healing power was noted in a historical book entitled The Yellow Emperor’s Classic Book of Internal Medicine, which highlighted a variety of treatments. In the modern use of massage, even shamans in the high mountains of Peru practice traditional massage and other bodywork techniques handed down from generation to generation that continue to benefit their communities.
Massage — Fact vs. Fiction
Massage newbies may have questions before booking a session. For one thing, nudity is not required for a massage. For example, at Beauty Bar Med Spa, you can keep some of your clothes on if it makes you feel better. Your massage therapist is there to relax and reassure you.
Before your massage, you will get either a sheet or a blanket as a covering. As different parts of your body are therapeutically worked, your therapist removes the covering as necessary. Some types of massage may not require undressing at all.
As a general rule, massages aren’t painful. Sometimes, tense muscles may experience some discomfort after a massage. Don’t be surprised if you feel a little soreness just like you would after a good gym workout.
At Beauty Bar Med Spa, our staff minimizes discomfort so that you can truly reap the benefits of massage magic. If you ever feel the too much pressure or pain during your session, let your therapist know. Our knowledgeable staff can adapt different techniques so that you feel great and get maximum health benefits. Communication is key.
